Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food ProductsFranklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO� NATURAL CHOICE� COMPLETE CARE� Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO� MAX� Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO� dry cat food.

This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO� dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further.

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian.

Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO� dry cat food product. Cat owners who have more questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST

Health problems associated with consumption of recalled Nutro cat food
On May 21, 2009, Nutro foods enacted a press release to inform the general public of the recall of specific varieties of Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care and Nutro Max Cat dry foods bearing “Best If Used By Dates" between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010 on the product label. The voluntary recall occurred after an incorrect mix of potassium and/or zinc in a supplement premix was added to the foods. Cats that consume these foods may manifest clinical signs of illness as a result of excess Zinc (Zn) or low potassium (K).

One premix included excess levels of Mg and deficient levels of K. The other premix only had deficient levels of K. Excess zinc can cause gastrointestinal upset, including vomit, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Exceedingly high volumes of zinc can potentially cause hemolytic anemia, which is a toxic destruction of red blood cells. Zinc induced hemolytic anemia is most commonly seen when a pet consumes Zinc based products, including metals, American pennies (minted after 1982), zinc oxide based sun blocks. A pet suffering from hemolytic anemia will present with lethargy/depression, increased respiratory/heart rate and effort, gastrointestinal signs (as above), among other clinical signs.

A potassium deficient diet does not necessarily hold the same potentially toxic effects as ingestion of excess zinc. A pet afflicted by a disease that causes low potassium, such as a cat in renal (kidney) failure, would more likely be negatively impacted by a low potassium diet. Low blood potassium, known as hypokalemia, can lead to muscle weakness, stiff gait, ventroflexion of the neck (downturned head), tremors, and cardiac arrhythmia.

If you are concerned that your pet may have consumed Nutro food that has been recalled, please see the FDA web site, which lists all the recalled Nutro foods and gives further information. You can also directly contact Nutro via phone (800-833-5330) or via the Nutro website. If your pet has consumed or is suspected to have consumed the foods and is showing clinical signs of illness, please contact your veterinarian.

Company voluntarily recalling cat food products

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The state has announced a voluntary cat food recall.

Nutro Products is recalling Nutro Natural Choice and Nutro Max Food.

The products include best-if-used-by dates from May 12, 2010 to Aug. 22, 2010.

Nutro is recalling the cat food because it has too much zinc and lower levels of potassium. If you have the product, stop feeding it to your cats.

Nurto says it has not received any complaints, but if your cat is not eating, has lost weight, or is vomiting, call your vet.

之前都給家裡的貓吃美士, 但是自從常去的店家說美士代理商好像有點問題後就不再進口, 現在又出現召回事件... 美士到底出了什麼問題??

（新加坡）在新加坡銷售的Nutro牌子貓糧，被農糧與獸醫局命令下架。
被令下架的是Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Dry Cat Foods及Nutro Max Cat Dry Foods。這2種產品系列共有28個，包裝註明的安全食用期是介於2010年5月12日和8月22日。
美國寵物食品公司Mars Petcare上週較早前，自願從市場收回旗下公司Nutro Brand Products生產的一些貓糧系列。為安全起見，農糧局已指示新加坡進口商停止售賣出問題的寵物食品。

未接貓兒中毒案例

農糧局週日（5月24日）發文告說，出問題的貓糧是因為美國的有關供應商在生產過程中出現錯誤，結果造成鋅（Zinc）水平超出標準，鉀（Potassium）成份則過少。

2種礦物質都是貓兒必需攝取的營養，通常被加入貓兒食品以充當營養補充品。

農糧局週日發文告說，雖然至今沒有接到任何中毒的案例，還是指示已進口的商家下架，並吁請已購買的公眾停止使用喂貓，並留意寵物是否出現體重下降，嘔吐，失去胃口及泄肚子的症狀。

公眾如果發現寵物出現這些症狀，應立即讓它送接受治療。
